This site provides an interactive overview of the artwork restored by CRIA (Committee to Rescue Italian Art) in the aftermath of the flooding of the Arno in 1966. In the years following 1966, CRIA restored many works in Florence and the surrounding area of Le Marche. The organization also did some work in Venice, where seasonal flooding (known as aqua alta) had damaged many masterpieces. Users may search for artists, restorers, objects and buildings under "Browse" or analyze where damaged objects were located with the interactive map of Florence, Le Marche and Venice.

The artworks, monuments and buildings showcased on this site reflect the records found in the CRIA archives, housed at Villa I Tatti. All of the entries on each site have been confirmed as CRIA works by conclusive archival evidence in the form of documents such as official lists of restoration projects, progress reports, letters to and from restorers and payment confirmations. Some works were mentioned in the archives but did not have enough evidence to confirm definitvely that their restoration was financed by CRIA. In order to ensure historical accuracy, these mentioned works are not included in this showcase. Though the site can therefore not claim to be completely exhaustive, it provides an accurate account of the major works restored by CRIA after the 1966 flood.
